Wordpress on the iPhone - As Easy as Exchange

author: tom

I’m sure I am but one many people testing out Wordpress for iPhone right now. I just couldn’t resist.

So far it was been about two minutes since the app finished downoading. So it seems blogging may just be as easy as setting up exchange on the iPhone.

Feed Me!

Deseloper.org Feed Update

I would like to make everyone aware that the Deseloper.org feed will be moving to a new location: http://feeds.feedburner.com/deseloper.

As you know, FeedBurner is used to serve up both the new (feeds.feedburner.com/deseloper) and old (feeds.feedburner.com/tomlauck) feeds. I will be removing the old FeedBurner url in the next few days, so make sure to update your bookmarks and RSS aggregators!

We’re in the Top 20

author: tom

We found out today that a tech blogger recently reviewed 1,088 websites of publicly traded companies in the technology sector. Initially his review process was broken into three sections (A-G, H-O, P-Z), and 45 sites were selected in each section. The sites were filtered on aesthetics and function.

Upon completion of the process mentioned at the outset, the top 20 sites of the 1,088 were selected.

All of us at Vovéo, especially those deeply involved in producing Safeguard.com, feel honored to have our work ranked among the ‘best of the web’.

Furthermore, despite the amount of objectives we had to accomplish on the Safegaurd site (also known as: we had a lot to fit on that homepage), we were able to keep the site clean, simple, and visually pleasing.

Colibraro Landscaping & Nursery

author: tom

Colibraro Landscaping &, Nursery, an old Italian landscaping business, finally got a budget from Uncle Tony to build a Web presence. Their pride is their unique landscape design. As the sole developer and designer on this project here is what I accomplished:

  • Right from the start, I went unique for the design. (I stunned everyone at Parkside when they approved it…Parkside had even provided some “more approvable-is that a word?” samples as well.)
  • They didn’t have the budget for lots of motion graphics, but still wanted a little more than a static page. I utilized Flash in the header and photo galleries to give a more dynamic feel.
  • Their audience consists of landscapers. I assumed most landscapers aren’t incredibly computer savvy. I even went so far as to think that many may have dial-up…Uncle Tony did. So I created bandwidth sniffers and detectors, Flash detection, and alternate content for every possibility
  • I wanted to capture their elegance, so I created a home screen with soft fades and unique transitions.
  • To accommodate their wholesalers, I created a password secured wholesale section.

Wrapping up, technologies used:

  • Flash
  • XHTML/CSS
  • JavaScript
  • PHP

The client was very pleased with the site. The well thought out design and implementation moved the client to request postcard and door hanger artwork.

Who I Am, Where I’m At

author: tom

So to kick off this blog, here is a little history about where and how I started developing and design, where I am now, and some thoughts about the future.I am the Project Manager at Parkside Graphics Inc. Parkside is a small 5 person printshop turned ad agency. My title is a little misleading perhaps. Parkside’s business focus (posts to come) is not just interactive, not just print, not just design, not just marketing; it is all of that and more. There is another designer that works at Parkside along with a lady at the front desk, a billing lady, and the President. So, what exactly do I do at Parkside? Well, in a word, everything. Thinking on this makes me wonder sometimes, for as a fully capable and progressive developer, what am I doing at a little print shop in tiny Sellersville, Pennsylvania? To answer these questions, here is a little history on me and how I got to where I am. (more…)

First Post

author: tom

So I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, but too busy to take a couple minutes and set everything up. I don’t really know on my direction yet, but hopefully some people will find my words useful.
